Jan.16,2009Q: I am interesting in solar hot water. How do the tax credits work for this?
Matt: I am getting lots of questions now that Solar is a hot topic about how the rebates and credits work. Here is a sample of how it works here in Georgia:
Total Hoots Group retail: $8,290.00
Total GA and Federal Tax incentives: $4,500.00
Total after rebates and discount: $3,790.00
The price depends on a lot of conditions, however most good systems start around 8K and go up from there depending on how many people are in the house that are using water. The price after the tax incentives puts solar at the same price point as tankless water heater and it is many times more efficient. With this information, solar hot water is the obvious when it come to water heating. Plus you are polluting less and your water heating bills can come down as much as 80% or more! The savings over the life of the system is over 15K! Not bad for a minimal investment.
